Board of Directors

The mission of Burleigh Manor Animal Sanctuary and Eco-Retreat (BMASER) is to provide a loving home and care for abused and neglected farm animals. It was established in honor of the late Peggy Davis, an avid animal lover, in June 2012. It also honors the memory of  Edward "Eddie" Davis, who co-founded the sanctuary, after his death on June 10, 2018.

The outstanding individuals that make up our Board of Directors at Burleigh Manor are some of the most hard-working and compassionate people who have dedicated themselves to supporting the mission of BMASER and helping us be successful at what we do.

Below is a listing of our current Board members and a little bit of information about each of them.

If you, or someone you know is interested in a future position on the board, please contact Lisa Davis, BMASER’s president.

Dr. Lisa M. Davis

Dr. Lisa Davis is the Co-founder and President of the Burleigh Manor Animal Sanctuary and Eco-Retreat (BMASER). She and her husband, Dr. Lawrence Cheskin, founded the Sanctuary with Davis’ father, Edward Davis, Jr. in 2012 in honor of the late Margaret (Peggy) Davis, an avid animal lover and advocate. Having grown up caring for horses and numerous pets, Davis knew she had a calling to help animals. After conferring with her lifelong friends, Davis left her corporate job, where she was Vice President of Scientific and Clinical Affairs at Medifast, Inc., moved to Ellicott City, Maryland, and established the nonprofit animal sanctuary.

Wendy Cozzone

Wendy brings a lifetime of experience and knowledge in farm animal rescue to the board as vice president of Burleigh Manor Animal Sanctuary and Eco-Retreat (BMASER). Richard LaDez

Grounds & Facilities

Richard got involved with Burleigh Manor Animal Sanctuary and Eco-Retreat (BMASER) when he came to drop off some rescued pigs (Chloe and Wilbur). He fell in love with the farm and has been with us ever since. A long time animal advocate, Richard works for the Humane Society of the Untied States. He has brought a plethora of knowledge, compassion and good old fashion elbow grease to Burleigh. He is an incredible asset to the team and we don’t know what we would do without him.

Cate has a incredibly special bond with each animal and takes care to work with them individually so their specific needs are met. Jake the Donkey (pictured with Cate) hold a special place in Cate’s heart and one of her favorite furry babies to spend time with.
